The garden cart, such as this one from Lee Valley
is just the beginning. The real usefulness is in
how you pimp it out for your own needs.

For the longest time I wore a path between the area where I do my most intensive gardening and the corner of the garage where I kept my garden tools. That's because what I wanted was always in the garage rather than with me in the garden.

That is, until I wised up and bought myself a deluxe garden cart. I found mine at one of those big linens stores, but it's the same garden cart that Lee Valley sells. Now, I have all the tools and supplies I use most frequently loaded up and ready to roll out to the garden and around the yard as I work.

Of course, the cart is only the vehicle (yuk yuk). It's up to you to make it fully functional by pimping it out with the supplies you'll use most frequently.

Here are some of the supplies you might use to make your cart the best garden cart ever:

  • Hoes, rake, shovel, digging fork and bamboo supports and other long tools
  • Cultivator, pruners, hand weeder, hand shovel, small hand rake
  • Twine, tie supports, plant labels and pen
  • Gloves for weeding, pruning and mud
  • Clip and Nalgene water bottle
  • Garden hat or visor
  • Baby wipes, sun block, bug repellant and anti-itch cream
  • Basic fertilizer, such as fish emulsion and measuring cup
  • Bucket with handle
  • Small plastic footstool
  • Laminated Mac's Field Guide to good bugs and bad bugs (I hang mine with twine from the handle.)
  • Garden Primer, by Barbara Damrosch

What's on  your garden cart? Better yet, send me a photo to gardeningexaminer@gmail.com so I can see how you've pimped out your cart.
