Arnold Donald, former Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International President and CEO, will be honored at the 2009 St. Louis JDRF gala scheduled for May 9.
Donald, a iconic St. Louis area friend and businessman, has done more than his fair share to raise awareness and take steps toward finding a cure for diabetes, and it shows in his fundraising. Serving the JDRF from January 2006 - Feb. 2008, annual funds raised during his term nearly doubled.
Donald earned a BS degree in mechanical engineering from Washington University. He held a senior executive position at Monsanto Company where he worked for 20 years. He also founded Merisant Company, a company whose products include alternative sweetners Equal and Canderel - another example of Donald's committment to the technological and scientific advances of in the health care industry. He first served as Chairman and CEO, then as Chairman of the Board.
This year's St. Louis JDRF gala has taken on an "Unmask the Cure" theme in honor of Donald's upbringing in New Orleans. The evening will begin in the French Quarter in traditional Mardi Gras-style. A parade in the Garden District will follow. Dining options will be provided by the chefs of Russo's, and will be served prior to a live auction and music from the Fabulous Motown Revue.
