The patio at Linda's Tavern /// www.citysearch.com

Some of my fondest memories of the East Coast involve humid summer nights spent in the company of friends, sipping a drink outdoors ... on beaches, in backyards, on roofs, and at bars with beautiful patios and decks.

Now, with Seattle's summer off to a roaring start, my vitamin D-deficient body just can't get enough of being outside.

If you haven't noticed, Seattle's rainy reputation doesn't really bleed into its summers. So fortunately, the city's got a growing number of restaurants and bars that boast great patios and decks.  Here are a few to get you started:

1.) Captain Black's - This bar is one of the most recent additions to Capitol Hill and features two sizeable decks.  As if that's not exciting enough, the menu includes chicken and waffles and po boys.  Yum.

2.) Schultzy's - This German bar is great in the winter, with its hearty fare and wide beer selection.  But in the summer, the patio in back offers a surprising escape from the U-District into a veritable bier garden.

3.) Linda's Tavern - A Capitol Hill favorite, Linda's patio is like a home away from home for its regulars during the summer.  It can get pretty crowded, but it also feels a little like a patio party with a hundred friends.

4.) King's Hardware - Ballard is home to some unique bars, and King's Hardware doesn't disappoint.  They're worth checking out for the deck alone, but add in skee ball, and you've got an instant classic.

5.) Nectar Lounge - The best time to enjoy's Nectar's large front patio is during happy hour, where they offer some great deals on food & drink.  But their live music and dance parties are also a force of their own.

If none of these float your boat, Citysearch has a list of some other spots where you can get your drink on outdoors.  Even if you don't drink, these are great places to meet with friends and soak in the sun for the short time that it graces Seattle with its presence.
