Spooked in Seattle Tours // (c) Spooked in Seattle

The days are getting shorter, there's a cool breeze in the air, and Seattle-ites are muttering the unmentionable: "I can't believe the summer's almost over."  But you won't hear this bonafide fall-o-phile complain - well, not until winter.

If there's one thing I miss about New York, it's colorful, lingering autumns complete with spiced drinks, elaborate Halloween celebrations, and all things pumpkin.  But the Seattle area's got some great events that'll make any East Coast transplant (or longtime Seattle-ite) excited that fall is just around the corner.

1.) Pumpkin Beer - In the fall, Seattle's got a great collection of local pumpkin ales for sale at grocery stores or on tap at the Elysian brewery locations.  If a pumpkin ale sampler isn't your thing, here's a list of spots that serve up pumpkin cocktails once autumn rolls around.

2.) Ghost Tours - The city offers great ghost tours year-round, like the Spooked in Seattle tours through Capital Hill and downtown (with a special Halloween tour) and the Market Ghost Tours that boast a Halloween Pub Crawl in the market that's not for the faint of heart.

3.) Corn Mazes - Corn maze season is in full gear!  The South 47 Farm and U-pick farmstand opened its corn maze last week.  It's just one of several corn mazes in the area - you can search for one near you here. Be sure to check listings for special fall events like hayrides and pumpkin picking!

4.) Apples - Washington state apples just might have the East Coast beat.  Unfortunately, apple-picking in the Northwest just isn't as popular as it is in the Northeast.  But that doesn't mean you can't do it!  If you're serious about picking your own apples, here's a Seattle area guide.

There are also some pretty spectacular Halloween events in the area - but we've got to save some of the autumn goodness for later in the season! Until then, I hope you embrace the fall with open arms (and a decent raincoat).
