My cookies are baked, my bags are packed, and you guessed it - visions of New Jersey are dancing in my head. But if you're as excited as I am about flying back home for the holidays, this weather (as beautiful as it is) is a bit of a bummer.
I definitely experienced child-like glee when I first saw the thick coating of white in Seattle this morning (I even got in a good romp in the snow) but now I'm dealing with the impending doom of icy conditions here and a Nor'easter that's gearing up to slam the Garden State. So what's a Jersey girl to do?
Well, good news. The Seattle Times reported the following today:
"Several airlines are offering customers the option to reschedule flights during the next few days due to storms in the Northeast region of the United States, but with planes expected to be nearly full on some days, finding an open seat could be difficult.
Continental Airlines said that customers scheduled to travel to, from, or through affected airports, including its New York hub at Newark Liberty International Airport, could postpone or reroute their trip without penalty."
Other airlines could potentially follow suit, so be sure to check before heading out. Here are a few other tips to keep in mind:
1.) Remeber, flights are full - don't cancel your current flight till you're sure you have a seat on another one.
2.) Snow is expected in Seattle this weekend. You can only reschedule your ticket once with no penalty, so be aware that your second flight still could get canceled or delayed due to weather conditions.
3.) Getting to the airport isn't easy right now. My very patient brother tried to help me figure out alternate routes. Taxis and the Airporter are experiencing delays of several hours, Shuttle Express isn't accepting any reservations through the 21st, and road conditions are icy. Your best bet might just be the Metro bus system (although check for delays before heading out)!
Happy holidays, and safe travels!
