If you ask me, you're never too old for Halloween. Okay, so maybe dressing up in a scary costume, walking up to a house, and demanding something from the owner sounds like a felony when you're an adult. But why do kids get to have all the fun?
In New York, Halloween is serious business. For example, the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade attracts some of the city's most creative and creepy residents (hey, you never know who's hiding under that mask).
Basically, Halloween takes on the character of the city or town you're in. So whether you're new in town and looking to explore, or if you're just looking for something fun to do, here are a few ways to enjoy Halloween Seattle style.
Ghost Tours - Get to know Seattle's downtown and its complex history with a ghost tour. Market Ghost Tours take you through the surprisingly sordid past of the famous Pike Place Market area (and the Halloween tour ends with a pub crawl). Or, wind your way through the haunted history of the Seattle piers and underground city on the Spooked in Seattle Tours.
Halloween Shows - Seattle's famous music scene and venues are filled with character (and characters) - even moreso at the number of shows that take place on Halloween. This year, Diplo is performing at Neumo's, Moby and Paul Van Dyck are spinning DJ sets at Freak Night XII at the WaMu Theater, and The Sonics are playing a show at The Moore.
Costume Parties - Learn more about Seattle's music scene and check out one of its most famous museums at the Bonza Bash Halloween Masquerade Ball, being held at the Experience Music Project. Or, you could get involved in Seattle's political scene, get know the neighborhoods, and get out the vote while wearing a fun costume by participating in Trick or Vote Seattle.
Haunted Houses - It isn't Halloween without a haunted house or two. Seattle's most famous one is probably the KUBE 93 house, with this year's being held at the historic Georgetown Morgue. Nightmare at Beaver Lake, a ghoulish trail leading to a haunted house, also as a reputation for being creepy, with separate times scheduled for families with children.
Haunted Trails - Like a true Seattleite, get out of town and take a hike (well, sort of). The Stocker Farms Field of Screams in Snohomish, a haunted corn maze, is known as one of the spookier trails around. Bastyr University is also hosting its annual Haunted Trails Tour through the forest near the campus in Kenmore (as if the woods aren't creepy enough at night).
