Despite disparaging and hostile remarks from current and former law enforcement officers and Utah lawmakers such as Jon Greiner, Paul Ray and Curt Oda, the grassroots organization Legalize Utah continues on its' quest to obtain a personal opinion from each Utah politician regarding the legalization of medical marijuana.

Ogden's top cop and Utah Senator Jon Greiner  responded: "Shouldn't't be too hard to figure out since you have just spammed a police officer who deals with those who use this argument as nothing more than a subterfuge. So here is the deal; when the FDA gives me evidence that the 454 elements contained within marijuana are all safe and pose no public safety hazard as well as a guarantee that the THC component, you know that hallucinogenic one you really want, are not a gateway to other drug abuse, I might listen to your arguments. Otherwise, good luck on getting my vote! I quite frankly am tired of cleaning up it's mess after 35 years of dealing with it."

Representative Paul Ray (former police officer, loan officer and circus performer) recently equated medical marijuana patients with "morons"  and during the 2009 Legislative session, proposed a bill (H.B. 277) for the third time.

Representative Ray said "This substance [medical marijuana] has absolutely no medical use whatsoever. It’s only used to get a cheap high."

Ignorant responses such as these have also not deterred Legalize Utah from joining forces with the organization Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP) in the efforts to legalize medical cannabis in the state of Utah in addition to LEAP's mission which is "to reduce the multitude of unintended harmful consequences resulting from fighting the war on drugs and to lessen the incidence of death, disease, crime, and addiction by ultimately ending drug prohibition".

Legalize Utah made an official donation this evening to LEAP and in return received membership as well as a lapel pin.

LEAP's goals are "to educate the public, the media, and policy makers, to the failure of current drug policy by presenting a true picture of the history, causes and effects of drug abuse and the crimes related to drug prohibition and to restore the public's respect for law enforcement, which has been greatly diminished by its involvement in imposing drug prohibition".

Legalize Utah volunteered to assist the LEAP movement throughout Utah and vows to work diligently to continue to forward the medical marijuana movement throughout the state.
