4th of July at Cal Anderson Park & Gasworks Park

July 2, 10:27 AM

From The Matt Jones Blog
Cal Anderson Park Alliance 6th Annual Capitol Hill Independence Day Community Picnic

Friday, July 4, 12 Noon - 5 PM. Four eclectic music groups on the Sun Bowl Stage, your own picnic meal and friends, family and community. More details as they become available - check back! Our additional sponsors this year are 11th Avenue Inn, Seattle Gay News and Seattle Parks & Recreation. (calandersonpark.org

After the Picnic head down to Gas Works Park for the WaMu 4th of July.

This is by far my favorite fireworks display in Seattle.  Here are some tips if you plan to attend

  • Get there early to claim your spot on the grass
  • Bring water and snacks, it's going to be a long wait
  • Bring blankets to lay on the ground
  • Bring a jacket, last year it got a bit windy and cold towards the end
  • Here are the  official "rules"  from WaMu Family 4th organizers:
  • "Gas Works Park opens at noon on July 4th and admission is free. For the safety of everyone, please leave alcohol, fireworks, pets, barbecues and weapons at home. There is a security check prior to entering the Park and all those entering are subject to search. The park has a brand new irrigation system below the grass, so please do not drive anything into the ground. Leave the tent stakes at home!"
To get an idea of how packed it gets check out my pictures and video from last year here.

4th of July at Gasworks Park
There is also the ever-famous Ivar's 4th fireworks event at Myrtle Edwards Park. This long-running display of technicolor explosives takes place at 10 p.m. this Friday, July 4th. The only difference this year is that there will be no daytime event, too.
