Winona Ryder in THINKFilm's "The Ten"

According to The Hollywood Reporter Fox Searchlight have come to an agreement with Darren Aronofsky to produce “Black Song” a supernatural thriller set in the world of New York City ballet.

Cross Creek Pictures will co-finance the film with Searchlight and replace Rick Schwartz’s Overnight Films. Brian Oliver will produce.

The film stars Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis as ballet dancers. Winona rider has also signed on to place an older and more experienced dancer to Portman’s and Kunis’ younger performers. Barbara Hershey and Vincent Cassel are also joining the cast.

Budget for the film is set to be at $10 to $12 million. Searchlight resisted picking up the rights to distribute the film until now.

Afonofsky and Searchlight’s last project was the award winning “The Wrestler.”

The film centers on a dancer at the New York City Ballet who may or may having dillusions about a rival dancer. Originally, Universal had the rights to distribute the film and had been created as an indie.

Ryder’s latest project was the summer blockbuster “Star Trek” which is set to be released on DVD Nov. 17, and is attached to the indie thiller “Alpha Numeric.”

Fox Searchlight’s next projects are “Fantastic Mr. Fox” and “Crazy Heart”
