Lionsgate's Kick Ass

IGN has debuted four character posters for the Matthew Vaughn-directed comic book adaptation Kick-Ass, opening in theaters on April 16. Lionsgate beat out two other major studios to distribute the film after hearing rave reviews of the film during the San Diego Comic-Con.

The action-adventure, based on the Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. comic, tells the story of a teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. He chooses the name Kick-Ass and dons a scuba suit and a mask has his superhero suit, and uses a pair of clubs for weapons.  However he lacks superpowers, the physical ability, and the intelligence to become an actual super hero.

Kick-Ass is joined by three other copy-cats who appear more qualified to perform this vigilante job.

Hit-Girl (Chole Mortez) is an experienced assassin who wields a sword and kills drug lords for fun. Kick-Ass also meets Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage), who is Hit-Girl’s father and trainer. He is on a mission of revenege as he sets out to kill the crime boss who killed his wife and daughter’s mother. He use’s Kick-Ass’ imagination to be a superhero to furtherer his own dreams.  Then we have the marijuana smoking hero Red Mist, who joins Kick-Ass on his adventures, but appears to have a hidden agenda.

When put together, the posters spell out "Kick Ass."

Kick-Ass makes its theatrical debut on April 16, 2010.
