Summit Entertainment's "The Twilight Saga: New Moon"

Thanksgiving weekend’s box office was a considerable hit but the revenue came from the same top two films from the previous weekend.

According to  Box Office Mojo “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” topped the box office this weekend with $42.5 million over the weekend and $66 million since Wednesday. The film saw a staggering decline of 70% and has earned a grand total of $230.7 million since opening day.

However, Warner Bros.’ “The Blind Side” had an increase of 17% which was enough for second place with $40.1 million over the three day weekend. The film has grossed over $100 million in ten days and was produced for only $30 million.

“2012” came in third place with $18 million. In three weeks the film has grossed $138 million.

Disney’s “Old Dogs” was the only new release to make it into the top five at the box office this weekend with $16.8 million. Despite Disney’s reputation for performing well with new releases during the Thanksgiving weekend, weak reviews deterred moviegoers from watching this film.

“A Christmas Carol” rounded out the top five with $16.5 million. The film has a four week total of $105 million and was produced on a $200 million budget. It still has a long way to go if it wants to break even.

Warner Bros.’ new release “Ninja Assassian” opened at number six with $13.1 million, “The Road” based on a novel by Cormac McCarthy had an 11th place opening with $11 million, and Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” opened in limited release and debuted with $1.1 million in two theaters. Fox Searchlight’s “The Fantastic Mr. Fox” also debuted in wide release and the film jumped 15 spots into the ninth slot with $7 million.
