I'm exiting the PATH World Trade Center station one morning and as I get to the corner just outside the downtown Federal Building, I notice this odd-looking contraption cranking a big basket into the air. By the time the hoist ended, there stood this new portable, high-tech security devise the NYPD has deployed just outside "Ground Zero."
There are a lot of official sounding operations in place within the NYPD aimed at preventing another 9/11 disaster. The smoked glass tower pictured here is but a part of that effort. Among it's capabilities is visual surveillance of people and vehicles that travel the area south of Canal Street in Lower Manhattan.
