Style Rule #98: Use Cuff Links

There's something great about a French cuffed shirt that is just, well, classy. And putting on cuff links is a beautiful, ritualistic right of passage. You don't need 10 pair, you need one or two good pair.

The general rule with not wearing French cuffs (and thus, cuff links) with jeans has gone out of style the last few years. A patterned-shirt with a shallow tail can easily be worn outside jeans with cuff links. Yes, even to the office.

And on those special, formal occasions? That crisp blue shirt with white French cuffs and collar? Still spiffy.

TIP: Buy a pair of cuff links that are easy to put on. As British GQ Editor Dylan Jones says, "If it takes you about 30 seconds every day to the office... and you work for 45 years, taking into account holidays, a sabbatical and illness, you will have spent 80 hours of your life putting cufflinks on. That's about 80 hours too long"
