You know the drill, though: Rum is good. Coke is good. Why not put them together? This has worked in the past (see: cups, peanut butter). As an adult, however, how can we put the two together — stylishly — without feeling like a frat boy at the local pub?
It's all in the rum. We're not talking Bacardi here. We're talking the good stuff.
Stile E. recently tried Matusalem Gran Reserva — a really smooth rum that went down well both neat and on the rocks (with, of course, a twist of lime — this is summer). Then I decided to whip up a Cuba Libra, basically a Cuban rum and Coke, but without the urge to vomit on my roomate after I returned home.
Served in a Collins glass and everyone will wonder what that sophisticated drink is you're having tonight.
MAKE:
Cuba Libre
2 oz. rum
Cola, ice cold
Wedge of Lime
Half-fill a chilled Collins glass with ice cubes, add rum and fill with cold cola. Stir gently and squeeze the lime wedge over drink and drop into glass.
