If you don't use Twitter, then you probably won't care about this entry. Sorry about that, carry on then, nothing to see here.

However, if you do use Twitter - and especially if you are following me, and I'm not following your updates back - here are some possible reasons for that.  If you've been trying to use Twitter to promote your art, the reasons I don't follow updates of someone will be things you should work hard to avoid, so you can be successful using Twitter as part of your marketing.

I simply haven't had time to look at each follower and make the decision.

I don't blindly follow everyone back who follows me. I like to take the time to make sure you are really a person, not a spam-bot (automated junk account that send out spam/viruses, etc)

Once I decide you're not a spam-bot, I look for other things, like:

I look at your Twitter posts to make sure you're not a human version of a spam-bot.

If everything you post on Twitter is just a link to your site, or trying to sell something, I won't follow you back.

I look at your following to follower ratio.

If 40 people are following your updates, but you are following 1,900, that's not good. That looks to me like you are just following randomly in order to get people to follow you back, so you can boost your numbers.

I look for conversation.

Are you just blasting out whatever you want to say, or are you sending @TwitterUsername messages back to others? Is there any back and forth, and are your conversations with people actually helpful?

I look for the vibe of your tone.

People who seem very negative I can do without. I'm going to be blunt here, but I'm sorry, if you bring me down, you ruin my day, if you ruin my day, you will ruin my vibe on Twitter and everywhere else. If I want to be depressed, I can turn on TV news.

Trying too hard to impress.

"I just had lunch with Paris Hilton and then we're off for cappuccinos at our pool boy's house." Or, "I just made $10,000 last month." (oh, gag)

Political, religious. racial.

A little politics is okay, just don't think your way of thinking is the only way. If you're extremely radical in either direction, you scare me. If anything racial related is said, it would need to be positive, bringing people together, not tearing people apart. Basically, just don't be a hater. I love thinkers, though.

So, if you'd like to follow me on Twitter, and perhaps have a cappuccino with moi, you can follow me here: www.Twitter.com/DarlaDixon . As always, I'm promising a free bean burrito to one lucky follower, once I get to 1 million followers. Because I'm already at about 1,600, it shouldn't be long now. I might even upgrade the burrito to beef or cheese, if you are really, really nice! (Sign a waiver to confirm your status as non-lactose intolerant before the cheese burrito can be issued).

Hey, before you go, why not post a comment - you don't have to sign up to share here. Please tell us your Twitter username and why everyone should follow your updates.
