Barbara Muir is a portrait artist in Toronto, Canada who has found a unique way to market her art - Skype!
Skype is video communication via computer. You can communicate with someone just about anywhere in the world using Skype.
Muir discovered Skype in June, when she used Skype to keep in touch with her son who had moved to Korea to teach English.
Then one day, she was talking to an artist friend via Skype and decided to start drawing her.
Muir found the quick sketches a good way to keep her skills sharp. The sketches are also useful for providing images for her blog. She says that the Skype system allows her to be close in the suspect's personal space, but that it doesn't feel like that to them - she also likes that the angle can be very bizarre and the background can be different and interesting. On May 21, 2009, Barbara sketched Oprah using Skype.
This is definitely a reminder of how we can embrace technology as another way to enjoy and share our art!
