Terps sign big man, woo top '09 recruits

October 21, 1:15 PM

Forget the trouble with Gus Gilchrist, Tyree Evans and Bobby Maze, it looks like Gary Williams has signed 6-foot-8, 245-pound F/C Jordan Williams out of Torrington (Conn.) High.

Scout.com is reporting the senior committed to the Terps’ 2009 class yesterday, joining 6-foot-8 215-pound C James Padgett of Abraham Lincoln (NY) High, who committed last month.

Williams is ranked 16th and Padgett 21st in Scout.com’s national rankings for 2009 centers.

With current freshman C Steve Goins, Williams and Padgett, the Terps might be able to turn their frontcourt from a current area of weakness into a strength next year. And with sophomore C Braxton Dupree looking leaner and stronger the change could even start this year.

Maryland’s student newspaper, The Diamondback, is also reporting prized 2010 recruits Isaiah Epps, Taran Buie and Roscoe Smith were in attendance for the Maryland Madness festivities on Friday.

Epps, a 6-foot-2 PG from New Jersey, is 10th in Scout.com’s class of 2010 PG rankings. Buie, 6-foot-1, 178-pounds, is ranked 17th in Scout.com’s SG rankings for the class of 2010. Smith, a 6-foot-7 inch forward from Baltimore, is ranked 11th overall in the 2010 class by Rivals.com. None has committed yet, but all would look great alongside Sean Mosley.
