April Fool's Day, Shepherds Pie
Serve up fauxberry pie this Fools' Day.

April 1st seems tailor-made for kids. It's a whole day devoted to pranks and pranksters. I remember serving up a Dixie cup full of water to my dad. Unbeknownst to him, I had discreetly punctured it with tiny holes so that when he raised it to his lips his neatly pressed shirt and silk tie were showered with water. He was none too thrilled. Hey, at least it was only water.

So what's a parent to do? Take it sitting down (and likely set off a whoopee cushion or two). I don't think so. Where's the lesson in that, after all.

Revenge is sweet. Well, sort of. At FamilyFun.com you'll find all sorts of great ideas for April Fools'. Among them are some clever recipes including this fauxberry pie. Don't be fooled by the pink "frosting" – it's really a shepherd's pie with dyed mashed potato topping. Or surprise them by serving up pretty little cupcakes fashioned from meatloaf.

Of course if you're not feeling nearly so devious, they also have great recipes where the dessert masquerades at the main course including fish sticks sculpted from cookie dough.

Either way you go, have fun with it.
