So here I am at the grocery store being all environmentally friendly bringing my own fabric grocery bags so I don’t need paper or plastic at check-out, but now I’m in the produce isle. And I still really don’t want to use plastic bags, which is fine for apples and oranges, but I need Brussels sprouts and green beans. It’s not like I can just grab a couple of handfuls of Brussels sprouts and just throw them in my cart. So what to do?
Solution: Wonder Thunder! Dynamic Seattle duo Meagan Claire Hall and Sasha Barr make linen produce bags that come in different sizes and have this really cool screen-printed design on them.
The products are available at 20Twenty in Ballard and at Bluebottle Art Gallery and Store on Capitol Hill. Wonder Thunder also has an Etsy store and a separate website with online shop as well.
Besides produce bags, Meagan and Sasha also make shirts, pillows, tea towels and prints all with great screen printed designs. Wonder Thunder only uses natural fibers such as cotton, linen, and rayon for their handmade products and they use water based inks for the printing.
I recently also noticed that Whole Foods sells reusable mesh produce bags. This would be another option, but I personally think Wonder Thunder’s are way prettier. A set of four reusable vegetable bags cost $20 and they come in different sizes.
So now you just have to remember to bring them to the store with you next time you go. I find that it helps if I always put the bags in the car on the passenger seat where I can see them.
