Used to be a time, not so long ago, that "speaking truth to power" was considered a brave and patriotic thing to do.
When it came to sending troops thousands of miles away to kill our enemies before they could kill us, it was totally acceptable to have a mentally ill grieving mother sleep in the president's ditch. It was acceptable for Hollywood airheads to go on Oprah and screech that a vote for Bush was a vote for rape. And it was totally acceptable for network news anchors to throw away thier entire careers in a flurry of hatred for the person in charge of the country. It was, after all, the patriotic thing to do for America.
Nowadays though, any disagreement with presidential policy will first get you branded as a racist - so much for Obama being the post-racial president - and then you'll be put on an illegal government watch list.
The same far left that still to this day decry the actions of Senator Joseph McCarthy during the Cold War are now people who agree with the White House collecting information on people who disagree with HR 3200, the proposed health care reform bill.
You see, if you happen to write, blog, openly opine, email or even discuss in private conversation your displeasure toward the proposed HR 3200, the Obama White House has asked that your friends, family and neighbors turn you in. From the White House blog:
There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.
Fishy. Well. Dissent that was once patriotic is now "fishy". As in, Luca Brasi sleeps with the fishes, considering the White House has no constitutional remit under which they may collect information regarding American citizens dissenting political opinions. In fact, it's illegal, and has been ever since that little Nixon snafu back in the day where he was caught wiretapping the Democrats.
That is easily forgotten by today's Democrats who are brooking no backtalk from uppity conservatives or concerned taxpayers.
Please, for the sake of your country, report this article as fishy. Get me put on a watchlist. It will give me tons of exciting things to report about. Do your civic duty, dammit.
