Every now and again I’ll stumble across a really, really well-written teaser video. I’m not always a sucker for high-end graphics—I do need some substance to make me want to go and check out a game. Usually, MMO teaser trailers are mounded with awful voice-overs, clichéd dialogue, and pompous promises of a fantastic realm. Thankfully, Warrior Epic didn’t fall into any of these categories, so I went to take a look.
My disappointment that this is one of those “Free to play, but pay to have exclusive content!” games was overcome by their tongue-in-cheek FAQ page. They state that “anything along the lines of "broadsword of one-hit kills" would never be available for purchase through micro-transactions”. Apparently, they draw the line at being able to purchase exclusive clothing, and potions that give your character double the XP.
I’m intrigued by the different classes that are offered, as they seem to be a new take on the usual class fodder. Also, you’re never limited to only playing one class at a time. You have a hall at your disposal, where your different characters can hang out and, I don’t know, drink mead, or something, when they’re not busy being controlled by you. Pick the character you want to level and the others chill out at home in the Warrior Hall.
The other neat thing about Warrior Epic is the Spirit System. If your character/characters die, their spirit goes back and resides in you Warrior Hall. You can choose to resurrect them, or you can call their spirit into battle with you. Spirits have different powers than live characters, and appear to be more powerful. Spirits can be resurrected at any time in your Hall, unless you choose to have a weapon imbued. This allows a weapon to have special abilities. The upgrade is permanent, and you cannot get the character back that you sacrificed for the weapon.
Warrior Epic is free to play, and it looks super interesting, as well as fun to play, so go try it out.
