It's about time. Suffolk has had a proposed "natural borders” off-leash dog park pilot program in the works for a long time now, or maybe it just feels that way! The first of hopefully many recently opened and it is great!
Mud Creek Park is located at the end of Roe Ave. in East Patchogue on Patchogue Bay. It is bordered by the bay on the south, a canal to the east, natural growth north and west with Roe Ave being on the west side with a couple of entrances marked by wood posts and signs. Parking is limited to the street.
As a new “natural borders dog park” amenities are non-existent, but that should not be of much concern. The park offers lots of open space for our four legged friends, and the bay to take that much loved swim many dogs crave.
Remember to have respect, carry out anything you bring in and clean up after your dog. Just because it is an off-leash park does not make it off limits to dogs that require a leash. The only issue there is if your dog is not well socialized. If that is the case this is a perfect opportunity to start a good socialization and training program.
Other things to keep in mind are to bring fresh water, poop bags, a dry towel and maybe a throw toy or two. Please leave the treats at home.
The park is open from September 1 through March 1 and may be open as early as July 1, depending on the bird-nesting season each year. So get out there and give your dog what they require and love…fun! If you see me there, come and say hello. Friendly training tips, advice and chat are always available.
