"30 Days of Night," had real vampires. They were ugly and thirsty for blood, not eternal love. The creepy factor of the first film was intense and delicious.
The sequel, entitled "30 Days of Night: Dark Days," started filming in October in Vancourver. There is a new cast with Kiele Sanchez replacing Melissa George as Stella Olesen.
The film also as a major chance of location, from Alaska to LA. I personally think Alaska added immensely to the creep factor.
Another new feature of this film is that it is going direct to DVD. Many people look down their noses at films that take the path right to DVD. However, if you look at sales of DVDs you will see that Indie horror DVD releases often out sell major film releases. There is a huge fan base for horror films. One more thing to note is that last years best film winner at the Oscars was a film that almost went direct to DVD. Slumdog Millionaire was set to go to DVD, however it ended up with a theatrical release and the rest is history.

The Baltimore Movie Examiner has a top ten list that is pretty accurate in my opinion. He also points out that a move to LA cuts the creepiness factor way down. Part of the horror of "30 Day" WAS the cold, the constant dark and the isolation. The only thing in LA to be found is.....Palm Trees. Careful LA, Palm tress are about to become very dangerous.
