Wow, it's already Wednesday and time for the next ten of the all time scariest horror movies, in my opinion. If this is the first time you've read this list, please go back to the archive and read the first and second installments as it explains why some movies here may not seem like horror to you.
And the next ten are (and remember in no particular order, except for the final ten will be of course the top ten).
Alien
Aliens
Hellraiser 3
Return of the living dead 2
Phantasm
Reign of fire
Death tunnel
Snakes on a plane
Thirteen ghosts remake
The grudge 2
Kind of looks like today's films have a theme, SEQUELS. I love sequels, in theory anyway. Ususally they are disappointing, but in the horror genre they seem to do better and are certainly better received by fans.
Most of the films today are well known but there are a few more obscure films, let me take you there .....
Alien, Aliens, most will say sci fi, but if you read my definition of horror, you will see why I categorize them here as horror.
Hellraiser 3, I know a third part of a franchise, usually horrible (Halloween III comes to mind, ahhhhh), but this movie explains a lot about pinhead and also has some very visually awesome scenes, like the disco that closes up and the cds start flying, wonderful scene.
Return of the Living dead 2, One of the first true zombie movies in the list. I loved part 1, it comes in the list later, but part two stood up very well as a sequel, part 3 was horrible. But I loved 2.
Phantasm, what can I say, an actually original movie. Low budget, but they did a lot with the little they had. The Tall Man was so scary, and creepy. There's a lot to this movie, sometimes it gets a bit confusing, there are some loose ends, but all in all, it's deserves this place in the list.
Reign of fire. I love Dragons, and these are particularly nasty ones, they've taken over the world and these last little stragglers have to save humanity (why bother??, just kidding). It's exciting and well acted. I will always have a place on the list for this film.
Death tunnel, made for TV, Sci Fi channel. Done by a pair of twins named The Booth Brothers. They rock, totally. This is a scary film. It is a ghost story of monumental proportions. And it spawned an actual documentary about the place where the film was made. The Waverly Hills Sanatorium that is in Louisville, Ky. The documentary is called Spooked and it is worth picking up also. The brothers have a few other documentaries about the paranormal, one of them doesn't come out until May, but check them out online or on myspace.
Snakes on a plane, the title says it all. How creepy is that.
Thirteen ghosts remake. I love the original, gave me nightmares. The remake is so much better due to the technology and the acting. The plot is much better also.
The Grudge 2, Part one is not on my list. Part 2 explains a lot of what was happening in the first part and why. I still can't stand to hear a little kid making "that" noise .
So, here is the third list. Please let me know what you think, why a film should be here or not.
