I visited Lov A-Da Coffee open Mic night last Saturday evening, and was amazed at the local talent. In particular, a local girl, Emily Koselak plays electric piano and sings like an angel. I spoke with Emily after her performance and was surprised to hear she is only 16 years old. Her singing and piano playing is polished and professional, and her voice is crystal clear and hauntingly beautiful.
Emily told me her voice was influenced by Erin McCarley. She also loves Kelly Clarkson's harmonies and fun style of music, as well as Sara Bareilles. She also sings Carrie Underwood songs because her brother (who is in the marines in Afghanistan) loves Carrie Underwood songs.
Emily began her singing career in Church where she was asked to sing solo from the age of 6. At age 12 she sang in the Youth Group; it was then her love of the piano took off and she began to take piano lessons seriously.
Emily began playing at Lov-A Da Coffee in October 2009. She has also sung the National Anthem at her school and with the school chapel band.
Clearly Emily was born to sing; her parents told her she sang even as a very small child. Emily would love to get a recording contract but is also well-grounded and understands that this will come her way when the time is right.
Emily can be heard singing and playing every Wednesday at Lov A-Da Coffee between 7pm-8pm. She normally sings approximately 10 songs plus any additional requests. She describes her style as contemporary pop. She has written one song and is in the process of writing two more.
For the future, Emily says she would like to attend Belmont University, Nashville, or be able to travel the world singing and playing. As a talented young lady, I am sure she will achieve all of her dreams. Don't miss another night of this excellent, free entertainment:
