July 10,2003:
A thunderstorm with high winds, heavy downpours, and frequent lightning moved through the District between midnight and 1 AM on the 11th, taking down several trees and flooding Canal Road in Georgetown. Trees were also downed between Dupont Circle and Cleveland Park. Two homes and one car were hit by lightning. One of the homes was severely damaged after lightning struck the chimney and started the roof and the attic on fire.

July 10,2007:
High pressure across the western Atlantic brought hot and humid conditions to the Mid Atlantic on July 10th and along with the hot weather came some strong to severe afternoon t-storms. The showers and thunderstorms developed along and east of the Interstate 95 corridor, including the Washington DC and Baltimore metro areas, out ahead of a cold front approaching the region from the Ohio Valley. One severe storm moved across the District, downing a tree at the intersection of 12th Street and Florida Avenue.
