Jake Rubelt, owner of Athlete Octane and cycling coach, is kind of like a ninja. He’ll calmly and quietly sneak up behind me during Tucson group rides, then throw down a vicious death surge that leaves me (and just about the entire peloton) anaerobically cross-eyed for the rest of the day. But Rubelt is a nice ninja. He wants nothing more than to see competitive cyclists succeed, and he’s got a product designed to help. Athlete Octane is, in my opinion, the best product on the market when it comes to muscle recovery and sustained performance. I’m not just saying this because it is wise to be nice to ninjas. I’ve been on Athlete Octane for over a month now, and I can see the results in my training. My legs are just, well, happier. Less fatigued. Stronger. More responsive. I still have to shave them, as Athlete Octane is not a depilatory, but this is probably a good thing. I think it’s time to let the ninja speak.
KB: Jake, your product is not a gel, bar, nor pill. So what exactly is Athlete Octane and how do you take it?
JR: Athlete Octane is a powerful collection of nutrients that help to neutralize the free-radical damage to your body brought on by the stress of exercise, or in your case, being a Ninja. The Athlete Octane system is easy. Rather than take a handful of pills each day, you now just have to take one ounce of liquid. If you take it on a daily basis your endurance levels with rise, your recovery time will decrease, and it helps to support a healthy immune system.
KB: I notice that B-12 is the main ingredient, with a whopping 8333% of the daily value. Why is that a good thing for endurance athletes?
JR: B-12 helps in so many ways for endurance athletes. Some of the main ones are reducing recovery time, better absorption of carbohydrates, building of red blood cells, and re-building of muscle tissue.
KB: CoQ-10 is all the rage. I tend not to comprehend ingredients that sound like missiles. Can you explain it to me? Even better, with all the products out there steeped with spazzy stimulants, tell me what is not in Athlete Octane.
JR: It is all the rage and rightly so! Coenzyme Q10 on the basic level helps to manufacture ATP. ATP is the basic fuel that our bodies use for energy. Without Coenzyme Q10 our energy production is very limited. As for what’s not in Athlete Octane, well a lot of stuff. First being caffeine. Athlete Octane is not a energy drink, it’s not a gel, its not a electrolyte replacement drink, it’s a powerful collection of nutrients that helps with energy production on the cellular level, and it helps to neutralize free-radical damage.
KB: Radical indeed. If I keep taking Athlete Octane, what are my chances of joining the cast of Heroes?
JR: I would say you have a 2 in 10 chance. Just keep working hard on your skill set and you never know what might happen!
KB: Athlete Octane has been around for a few years, but you recently bought the company. Can you tell us a little about the history and why you decided to take over the product?
JR: Athlete Octane has been around for about eight years now. I was one of the first users of the product. I did my research on each one of the ingredients and knew from the start that this was truly a great product. You could say I have been a big fan for a long time. About six months ago the opportunity came up to buy the business. The only reason that I bought the business was because I know that Athlete Octane works. Plain and simple. The product really does sell itself. I all I do is help ninjas such as yourself find out about what I have known for years.
KB: Thank you, Jake-san. As a coach, what do you think is the biggest mistake athlete’s make in their training in regards to taking supplements/vitamins? (Other than doping, of course).
JR: I think that what’s happening with a lot of athletes right now is incomplete diets. It’s not all their fault. The mass production of food for consumption has stripped most of the nutrients out of most of our foods. As endurance athletes we are only as good as the fuel that we put in. As athletes train harder and harder the nutrients that we need become depleted. This is where supplements come in. But with the supplements also come dangers. Some supplements might be tainted, others give false claims, and some are just don’t do anything at all!! With every bottle of Athlete Octane we guarantee that no steroids of any kind are even produced or mixed in our mixing facilities, so there is never ever any worry of a tainted supplement. If you want to know if your supplement is actually working just take some of what your taking now and wait an hour. Then go to the bathroom, if you see a bright color then there goes your supplement! Pills have such a hard time absorbing. Because Athlete Octane is liquid it absorbs almost 90% more than any pill!
KB: I can attest to that. My urine is normal with Athlete Octane, but day-glo yellow with multivitamin pills. Too much information, sorry. So, anyway, I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor of Athlete Octane. The orange is potent, but there’s no aftertaste. Complete the blanks: “Athlete Octane tastes better than ____ but not as good as ___.”
JR: Athlete Octane tastes better than Robitussin but not as good as chocolate ice cream.
KB: You’ve said that AO often has a stronger affect on females than males. Are you just saying this so we Cycling Goddesses will buy it, or is there some hardcore data to back this up, Ninja Jake?
JR: I don’t have any hard data to back this up. I do have a couple of years in the business now and talking with the female ninjas out there they seem to get a bigger kick out of it then us guys. I have a couple of theories out there but I’ll keep them to myself for now.
KB: Ooh, a man of mystery! Are there any big famous cyclists, other than me, who are on the Athlete Octane train? Where do we get it?
JR: Yes, you would be surprised to know who is actually on this stuff!! Let’s put it this way, the pros want to keep this a secret! You can order it at athleteoctane.com or send me an email for more info.
KB: Mum's the word. OK, last question, Mr. Jake Rubelt. Are you okay with the fact that I might out-ninja you if I keep taking your product?
JR: Grasshopper, you have lots to learn…
