Mike has been cycling almost as long as he can remember. From the very first day when he grabbed that training-wheel-less Schwinn and took off, bikes have been a fundamental part of his life. He's raced mountain bikes, road bikes and even done a bit of touring. Mike has explored the roads and trails of the Front Range for the last 14 years.

What a spring we've had in good old Colorado!

The green is back and so is the crazy weather making every cycling outing an exercise in adventure. The road racing season is under way and the throngs of colorfully-clad cyclists can be seen daily here in Boulder county. The lower front range trails are drying up too, as I noticed riding by the Hall Ranch trailhead last week.

The commuters are taking to the streets in record numbers as many folks are choosing to get the wind in their face on the way to work and forgo the gas-guzzler and the eventual gridlock frustration. Yup, in Colorado its great to be a cyclist.

In this column I hope to introduce you all to great rides and helpful tips that will take your riding to the next level and make your bike the best friend you've got. If you haven't dusted off the two-wheeler in the garage, what are you waiting for? The world out your back door is just waiting for you to explore. Got a friend that shakes their head at your biking exploits and frequently calls you "crazy"? Pledge to invite them along the next time you have an "easy" day and show them how cool riding can be. Into the dating scene? Why not make your next date a ride down the Cherry Creek path or down the Platte River trail?

There is no "right" way to ride, or "right" bike. I'll show you that no matter where you go or what you wear, cycling is just plain cool and between you and me - it just might save the planet.....

Until later,
Get Out and Ride!
