
This weekend is the annual Giant Omelette Festival in Abbeville, Louisiana. The highlight is a 5,025-egg omelet that will be cooked on Sunday afternoon (I'm quite curious about the spatula that is going to flip that thing). The festival is about four hours away, south of Lafayette in the heart of Acadania. I tried to get a good friend who is an Abbeville native to comment on it in authentic Cajun gibberish, but I think he might have had some problems communicating via the intrawebs.
Thinking of omelets, Houston really is not an omelet town. These eggy creations are less popular here than in most of the rest of the country. Mexican-tinged breakfasts are far more popular when it comes to heading out for an inexpensive breakfast. There are certainly good options for omelets here, though.
