Manny Ramirez, in support of the impressive return of starting pitcher Jason Schmidt, clubbed his 537th homer. That was enough to edge him past the great Mickey Mantle and take 15h place on the all-time home run list. Next up, Michael Jack Schmidt, who finished his career with 548.

According to the Associated Press:

Ramirez, who tied Mantle on July 10, drove a 2-0 pitch into the left field pavilion in the second inning Monday night to give the Dodgers a 6-3 lead. The crowd at Chavez Ravine yelled his first name in unison, hoping for a curtain call that never came.

I'll leave comment about Manny, curtain calls, and whether this accomplishement is tainted for the future. Ok. I give. I'll do it. For all the love Mannywood gives their hero, he should have come out for the curtain call. It was rude not to do so.

Mantle's performance-enhancing drug was alcohol. I have more respect for where the Mick finished his career.

Where will Manny end up? Ten more homers to pass Schmidt before the end of the year is a lock. He'll have to chase Jim Thome (who has 557 for 13th place at the moment) and won't catch him this year. Reaching the 600 HR milestone? Not as much of a lock as I once thought.
