That's the word from AM 570, Fox Sports Radio in Los Angeles, according to National Sports Examiner Paula Duffy who heard the news at about 2 p.m. PST today. (NOTE: See update below).

"Vic the Brick" said on AM 570's "Loose Cannons" show that Manny is ready to put his signature on a two-year contract with an option for a third year "later this week." (Click here to listen to the podcast of Vic's exclusive news).

We don't know who Vic's sources are, but I wouldn't think a high-profile radio host in Los Angeles would put his neck out like that if he didn't have the story solid.

Financial details of the deal have yet to surface — and, as Paula points out — this news is not being reported anywhere else yet. But, if Vic is correct, it jibes perfectly with what I wrote about the Manny negotiations just yesterday:

The Dodgers, meanwhile, appear to be sticking to their offer of two years, $45 million, plus an option of a third year at $25 million and an offer of salary arbitration. The good news is that, eventually, Ramirez and Boras will realize that they have no better options.

And jibes with what I wrote on Feb. 8:

[Manny's] let some pretty good pitches from the Dodgers go by — and he may not see a better one. The club in November offered Manny a two-year, $45 million deal, with an option for a third year for a total of $60 million — that Manny would collect at the age of 40. Simply put, that's a deal Manny's hard-ball agent Scott Boras should have accepted. Not many non-juiced sluggers at that age put up the kind of numbers that warrant such coin.

And again on Feb 8:

I still believe a deal with Manny will be done, especially since it seems the Giants and other suitors do not appear to be serious.

Looks like Manny and SuperAgent Scott Boras finally came to their senses today. I'd be surprised if the original Dodgers offer was sweetened at all to get Manny to sign. If so, score one for MLB team owners, and put a rare "loss" on the ledger for the jerk, Boras.

UPDATE (7:43 p.m. PST): A few hours after Vic the Brick broke his news on the radio, GM Ned Colletti told MLB.com that it wasn't true:

PHOENIX -- Despite wild radio rumors to the contrary, Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said Monday there is no contract agreement between the club and free-agent outfielder Manny Ramirez.

"Nothing's changed in 48 hours," said Colletti, who on Saturday said negotiations between him and agent Scott Boras had increased in frequency and duration during the previous week, but would not characterize the progress made.

Meanwhile, the LA Times' Bill Shaikin confirmed Vic the Brick's version of events at 5:36 p.m. PST.

So ... who knows? We'll find out eventually. But frankly, I believe Vic and Shalkin's anonymous sources before I believe Colletti, who would be reluctant to confirm anything until the paper was signed.
