Wind Power is Not For Everyone
Wind Power can be part of the solution to global warming. Some areas of the country have abundant wind power potential. The mid-west, mountains, and off-shore areas seem to have the most potential. If you live in the Southeast of the country, there is much less potential because the wind just doesn’t blow very hard.

Wind power does not emit any greenhouse gases. It can be an economic boom to some landowners who get payments for leasing land to wind generators. But some areas restrict wind generators because they are considered unsightly. Residents of Cape Cod, Massachusetts (including Ted Kennedy) prevented an off-shore wind farm from being build there.
Some states like Kentucky, Tennessee, Connecticut, New Jersey, Ohio, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Missouri may not have wind power as an option. In other states like Texas, the wind potential is on the opposite side of the state from where most of the electric consumption occurs. This can add to the cost of wind power because of the high electric transmission costs. Different states will need different solutions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
