Toyota Can’t Keep up With Battery Demand For Prius
Toyota announced that it can’t produce enough nickel-metal hydride batteries to keep up with demand for their fuel-efficient Prius Hybrid. This is limiting sales of the energy efficient car. Toyota has announced its third plant for producing the nickel-hydride batteries. Production will not increase until next year.
Moving to a more energy efficient world with reduced greenhouse gas emissions is going to take a huge investment in infrastructure and take a long time to accomplish. This is just a small example.
Toyota’s plug-in hybrids will use lithium-ion batteries, but they won’t even start producing those until 2009.
