Crystal Head Vodka
by Ivy Hover

Sometimes you walk into the liquor store and fear that the coolest bottles are simply that, terrific showpieces filled with inferior products. This Halloween do not be afraid to purchase Crystal Head Vodka. It's a bit of an investment at Oregon's standardized price of $50.45 for 750 ml (check to see it's in stock at a store near you with
Oregon Liquor Search), but the skull-shaped bottle is exquisite, which is why production is so limited. There's not many craftsmen capable of manufacturing such a detailed and unblemished piece of glass.

Crystal Head was created by actor Dan Aykroyd due to his long-time fascination with ghosts, un-worldly presences, and the legend of the 13 Crystal Skulls.

This super-premium spirit is quadruple distilled and then triple crystal-filtered through Herkimer diamonds, which are said to emit positive energy. Produced in Canada, this is an incredibly smooth vodka with just a touch of alcohol fire and a crisp taste that barely hints at vanilla. Tasted-tested against Absolut, it left the popular Swedish vodka in the dust.

It's so pleasing you could easily sip it straight up or on the rocks if you are so inclined, and yet so clean you could mix it with anything. It shakes into a lovely extra-dry martini, but remember, it would be a crying shame to bury Crystal Head under too much sweetened juice. And once the gorgeous skull bottle is empty you can use it as a decanter or candle holder for future Halloween parties. If you are going to someone's Halloween party, it would make an excellent gift.
