Cardigans are--without a doubt--the ideal Fall Transition accessory. This time of year, when morning hours offer brisk coolness and evening brings unavoidable chill, it's nice to have a fashionable cover-up handy. While we're not quite ready for thick wool coats and lined trenches, we do need a little something-something to make us feel cozy and warm. Here are my three favorite cardigans for the budget-- and style--conscious!

#1. Cashmere Luxe: Nothing ushers in the crispness of Fall better than cozy cashmere. J.Crew has an amazing selection of soft cashmere cardigans (and don't discount their selection of merino wool!) in beautiful, vibrant colors. My favorite is the canary yellow primrose cardigan, on sale now for $79.99.

#2. The perfect wrap: I love any sweater that offers a sophisticated shape and actually enhances the feminine silhouette. This season, belted wrap sweaters (like the BCBG kimono-style wrap at Nordstrom) are the perfect finishing touch to any outfit; a wrap sweater with a cinched waist will look equally stunning over jeans, slacks and skirts.

#3. Light and floaty: An airy, open cardigan is an ideal layering piece and will add interest to any outfit without adding heavy bulk. Right now, you can find these light cotton cardis at Target for under $25. Trust me: you'll be reaching for them everyday, so you may want to get several! I found an array of colors at the Alderwood Target this week...get 'em while they're hot!
