On June 3 from 6:30-9PM, Wines of Chile is sponsoring a walk-around tasting of Chilean wine. Over 40 producers will be presenting an assortment of the current vintage of their wines.
If you’re not familiar with Chilean wine, you’ll learn that Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot are among the top varieties grown there. You’ll also discover Carménère, a grape variety that has finally found its place in the world - Chile. The wine made from this grape offers ripe fruit flavors of blackberry and plum, as well as hits of spice, coffee, green peppers and roasted meat. The tannins tend to be rich and round so the wines are generally easy to drink and approachable.
If you are familiar with Chilean wine, you’ll still have the opportunity to taste a huge array of different types of wine from producers located in the country’s thirteen diverse wine growing regions, which run from Peru down the length of South America on the Pacific Coast.
There will also be a live DJ spinning Latin beats and an array of South American hors d'oeuvres to complement the wines.
Tickets are $50 and a portion of the proceeds to two charitable organizations, Citymeals-on-Wheels and Share Our Strength.
The event will be held at Gotham Hall, 1356 Broadway at 36th Street. For more information, call Wines of Chile at 866.461.WINE. You can pay at the door but they ask that you RSVP to info@winesofchileusa.com to let them know you’re coming.
