My scooter club, the Rovers, have been meaning to get out for a ride with the Metro Triumph Riders for a month or two, but something always seemed to get in the way. In a fit of organization, we decided to have a ride RIGHT NOW, and to let the chips fall where they may for people in both clubs to make it out. It was a couple of weekends ago, but that Sunday dawned bright and cold as three Metro Triumph Riders and six Rovers made it out to meet up to start the ride.

We met just outside our unofficial home-away-from-home, the Woodward Avenue Brewers (or the WAB as it's known). We met up at 10:30 to split the difference between sleepy-heads and those of us with tiny, living alarm clocks (and great wives!) We met up, shared quick greetings and debated the ride destination. Soon we departed the WAB and headed up to Pontiac, about 15 miles north on Woodward Avenue.

The ride up was painless despite the cool temperatures and our rusty formation riding skills. A couple of us 'got away' and had to slow to wait for the rest, but soon we were in a solid formation, getting a few waves, honks and thumbs-up from passersby. Before we knew it, we made the big loop in Pontiac and headed back to the WAB. Someone had heard that the new pumpkin ale was on at the WAB and, as usual, it was stunning.

The day was now perfect, a crisp fall day with brilliant sunshine. Naturally, we decided to continue our riding. Most of the Rovers headed downtown to Detroit as the Metro Triumph riders had enough and their mums were probably missing them(!) We even picked up another scooter rider who happened by to see our machines on the curb. Six strong we headed out to find adventure. What we found was a great dive bar, the Comet, nestled deep in downtown between expansive empty parking lots and the area largest collection of parked taxis in the Metro. After some light refreshment, we headed back north to the close-in suburbs.

Although our little Mods vs. Rockers was a hastily-organized and small-scale event ask anyone who was on the ride and they'll tell you it was great. Let's ride again!

What's next: Scootering pet peeves!

We threw together a quick ride to end the season. It went so well we might just keep on riding!
