How young are you really?

June 10, 2:54 PM

If you're like most people, some times you wake up and feel like you're a million years old and others you feel like a little kid, or at least younger.  But have you every wondered how young you really are?  I've stumbled on a website that will tell you.  And for free!

It's called Real Age and was developed by health care expert, Michael F. Roizen, MD.  He and Mehmet C. Oz, MD have a program on the Discovery Channel and are on Oprah and other television programs teaching America about health and wellness.  RealAge is a formula that is designed to find out your biological age based on lifestyle and behaviors, rather than your calendar age

You can go to the website and take a test that will measure how young you are based on family history, personal habits and current state of health.  I just took it and was almost 10 years younger than my calendar age.  The good news is that there are still things I can do to lower it further.  My son, Colin, took the test recently and found his Real Age was older than his calendar age.  Of course, he is a student and has just finished law school, so he has a good reason.  But only for the now.   He needs to start making wiser choices and soon.

I recommend you take 10-15 minutes to take the test.  They'll give you a plan and specific ideas on how you can lower your biological age.  There is also a way to connect with others and get tips on recipes, weight loss and other self improvement activities.  And, did I say it's free?  There's no obligation except to give them your email address so they can send you your results and plan.  It takes about an hour to receive your score but it well worth it!

Their philosophy is simple:  slow the aging process down to the cellular level while simultaneously preventing disease, thereby allowing us to enjoy a higher quality of life for a long period of time.  As the authors put it, "Aging may be inevitable, but the rate of aging is certainly not."  (from You Staying Young, The Owner's Manual for Extending Your Warranty, 2007.)  I'm shooting for 20 years off my age!
