The Obama “disappointing speech”

With this writing I will be accused of being partisan, (again), with this writing I will be accused of misinformation, with this writing I will be labeled a “right wing radical”. None of these labels are true, but I was disappointed with the Presidents speech to Congress last night, and I will explain why.

First of all I will tell you that the Republicans conducted themselves no better by yelling out “you liar” than any of the past Democratic outburst of the past, to me it was “just a simple mind trying to express itself”. The actions by the Republicans tonight were no better than when the Democrats boo’d President Bush at his State of the Union address 4 years ago. As I said in yesterday’s article I told you the Republicans would be setting on their hands and the Democrats would be putting on a “dog and pony show”, I was right. Congress continues to display partisan politics and shows no sign of compromise from either side.

President Obama had a chance to address Congress without using partisan rhetoric, he had a chance to motivate Congress, and he had a chance to sell healthcare reform to America, he missed on all points. It appeared to me President Obama was upset, you could say that he was deliberate, or you could say he is desperate, but the bottom line is, he came across as “mad”. If you are an Obama healthcare supporter, your man delivered a great speech, if you are in opposition of the Obama healthcare plan, you are still against it, if you are undecided I didn’t hear anything that would sway you to the Obama plan.

President Obama talked of the opposition using “scare tactics” while opposing the healthcare plan, but then said, “if this plan doesn’t pass, people will die” sounds to me like a scare tactic. President Obama stated in his speech that millions of illegal immigrants were dragging down the healthcare system we have now by costing states billions of dollars for uninsured healthcare, then later said in the speech that illegal immigrants would not be covered under his healthcare plan. Without healthcare coverage illegal immigrants will still have to go to emergency rooms for healthcare causing the same drag on an Obama healthcare plan. President Obama accused Republicans of holding up the passage of an Obama healthcare bill, this is not true, the Democrats control the House and Senate, they could pass a healthcare bill thru without 1 Republican vote, it’s the Democrats in his own party that are holding up this bill. Democrats are crying foul, but the Democrats control the outcome of any healthcare bill.

There is no doubt that President Obama is frustrated over the opposition he has endured thru this whole healthcare debate, it has cost his Presidency confidence from Americans, and it has put his White House in a continual defensive mode, President Obama needed to reach out last night, he needed to reach out to moderate Republicans, he needed to reach out to moderate Democrats, he needed to reach out to town hall protesters, and he needed to reach out to senior citizens, instead President Obama promised to “call out” opponents he deems misleading. The truth is there are misleading statements from both sides, but I doubt if President Obama will be calling out Democrats giving misleading statements. Again partisan politics at it’s best, (or worst).

I agree that America needs some healthcare reform, but the majority of Americans are afraid of a Government run healthcare plan, a majority of Americans don’t trust Washington politicians to successfully run a government run healthcare plan. President Obama spoke of the government running a non-profit healthcare plan, he failed to mention that we already have such a healthcare plan in America that is non-profit and run by a private company, “Blue Cross/Blue Shield”. He talks of lower overhead running his non-profit healthcare, but the costs of his government is rising everyday, to believe that the government can or will run a national healthcare plan at no cost to the American tax payer is “misleading”.

I have personally written President Obama with my concerns over the health care bill as proposed, I have not received a reply, nor have I even received acknowledgement he received the communication. Whether I have been ignored as a radical, or not, I don’t know, but as long as I have questions and concerns about the healthcare bill as proposed I will continue to press for answers. My search for the truth about the proposed heath care bill continues to be stymied by both sides of the debate. President Obama had a chance last night to tell the truth about the health care bill and then let it stand or fall on it’s own merits, he choose not to, now his Presidency may stand or fall on Americans perception of Obama’s truth.
