July 1, and July 2nd I wrote an article about the chances for a 3rd party candidate starting a campaign. Friday July 3rd, 2009 Gov. Sarah Palin announces she is resigning her position as Governor of Alaska. Since her announcement she has had more media attention than Biden in Iraq, the Afgan war, and President Obama. No matter how hard you try to play this down, Sarah Palin is the news.

Sarah Palin and her family has endured more negative press than any other political candidate I have ever seen. Since her V.P. pick last year by John McCain, Sarah Palin has lived in a glass house. She has been the butt of many jokes, and the source of many untruths. I don’t believe that Sarah or her family could have imagined the scrutiny she would receive from all sides, the left and the right. The far left has been very derogatory with personal attacks, and the right has tried to marginalize her as a Republican.

The McCain camp and the Republican party tried to use Sarah Palin as a party puppet, Sarah was not a good puppet, she was not a good puppet as Gov. of Alaska, and since being thrown in the spotlight she has proved to be a rough around the edges Republican. Sarah Palin is a head strong conservative Republican, but in expressing her views and opinions she has had to buck the system, Republican and Democrat. Sarah Palin is a truly concerned Gov. for the people of Alaska, but sometimes the game was not on her side. Many in her party and members of the opposing party have challenged her on many issues. This has caused her to spend more money than she has defending herself. By her own admission she is $500,000 dollars in debt to attorneys. Sarah Palin and her family are far from rich, they are not poor, but their salaries and savings are far below the average Washington politician.

This could be a problem for Sarah if she is to begin a national campaign, to be formidable on the national scene it takes millions of dollars and campaign supporters. Sarah Palin does have a core support group, but it is going to have to get larger fast. My best advice is to run for a Congressional seat in 2010, win, and then get her name on some legislation. Be in the national spotlight and continue to build supporters. This is if Sarah Palin wants to make a campaign run for a national position. Today I don’t think Sarah Palin is electable, with a liberal media, and a Republican party with no leadership Sarah Palin needs to find a venue to show her leadership qualities. I believe this begins with a Congressional seat.

With tea party protests being staged with only local leadership being held around America, these folks are also looking for a national leader. As more and more Americans become skeptical of Washington spending and taxing, this could be a venue for Sarah Palin, but this too could be tricky, she could be viewed as a radical or just another protester. Sarah Palin draws a crowd wherever she goes, she is sought after to do political appearances, and she is always, covered by national news reporters. Sarah Palin has to disassociate herself from right wing no give and take Republicans, and find a more middle of the road direction. With today’s left leaning political scene in full swing, Sarah’s success or direction may depend on the success of the Obama plan. If unemployment continues to rise, if taxes rise, if spending continues, Americans may be looking for a new leader.

It is reported that Sarah Palin has threatened to take legal measures against an Alaskan based blogger and certain news outlets for writing or reporting false stories. As a public figure this will be difficult for her to win, the FBI determined that the allegations were false, but for Sarah Palin to prove these stories were malicious will be difficult and just add to her legal debts. Although the Palin family sites stories about their family as a reason for the Gov. stepping down, Sarah Palin must walk a fine line between defending and attacking.

If Sarah Palin has political aspirations she will have to move quickly, and be guided by competent advisors. So far this has been missing in her political life, she will have to gain support from women’s groups, minority groups, and middle of the road frustrated voters. To do this will subject her family to more scrutiny, if this is the reason she resigned the Governorship of Alaska she should reconsider a national political life.
