Women business owners have a lot going on.  Not only are you the boss at work, you are likely the boss at home, too - paying bills, buying groceries, running errands, taking care of the house.  You essentially have two full-time jobs, so it can be hard to find the time to develop quality professional relationships necessary to support you in your busy life.

It really is a catch-22.  You are too busy to develop the support you need at a time when you really need it most.

The solution?  Start today.  Whether it takes you 2 months or 2 years to build a Dream Team of enthusiastic supporters, you will start seeing the difference in your life almost immediately.

  • Think about the kind of people you want on your Dream Team and see if any of them are already in your life.  These are people who want to support you and would like your help in return.  It doesn't work if it isn't mutual.
  • Reach out to your most treasured contacts now and start building a relationship with a phone call or a card.  Do not try to build your relationships via email.
  • I found a treasure trove of fabulous women through  eWomen Network, and there are many other organizations in the area with quality members.

Over the past two years I have been developing relationships with a core group of women I consider my Dream Team.  It started off slowly with a coffee date or two to talk business.  Then we started calling/emailing about specific business or personal issues that needed an objective opinion.

Because I like and respect these women so much, it wasn't long before we were socializing together in small and large groups.  You don't have to become close friends with your dream team, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

My Dream Team surprised me this week with a party to celebrate a professional accomplishment.  They have become such a big part of my everyday life that I didn't realize how much they had propelled me forward with their support.  To my Dream Team, thank you.  You guys are fantastic!
