Old joke (source unknown): A man walks up to an airline ticket counter with three bags. He says to the ticket agent "I am flying to Cleveland. I would like you to send this bag to Dallas, that bag to Chicago, and the last bag to Los Angeles." The agent replies "sir we cannot do that." The man responds "I don't know why, you did it last month."

As reported on CNN.com (http://www.cnn.com/2009/TRAVEL/06/24/airline.fees/index.html) airline fees are continuing to climb. In the after effects of 9/11/01 services like foods, beverages, entertainment, and amenities are often no longer complimentary if they are available at all. Fees for checked baggage (previously rare) are now the norm. Up to $25 for some airlines. Airlines have  been hit by the recession, but they are still often the fastest way to travel. What does this have to do with the complementary & alternative medicine category? Breathe.

At present, my luggage and I are taking separate vacations courtesy of Jet Blue airlines. Jet Blue is one of few airlines that does not charge to check the first bag. The fee for a second checked bag is $30. Luckily my bag is flying free, wherever it decided to go. If it had to pay $30, it should at least get a free meal. Coincidentally, this is about the tenth time my luggage has been lost in twenty years of air travel, via different airlines. It always has one or two address tags with all pertinent contact information and a decorative bow. My sister once flew from Frankfurt, Germany to London, England. Her bag went to Portland, Oregon. Maybe it is a family thing. Especially since my husband's bag was behind mine on the carousel. Thankfully he and his bag arrived intact.

What to do? Breathe. Many Eastern health care paradigms express the importance of living in the moment. Accepting where things are, understanding where and how change can be facilitated. Breathe. Be here now. Be happy I wore yoga pants on the plane so I can enjoy a morning practice tomorrow.

Hope my bag is having a good time. Maybe it will buy me a souvenir.
