  JJMD Skin Care, Botanical Dermatology for beautiful skin

What do you get when you combine holistic dermatology with a traditional medical education and a world renowned doctor and author? JJMD Skincare,  Dr. Jeanette Jacknin's indie skin care brand that celebrates the union of powerful herbs with the clinical artistry of dermatology. Dr. Jacknin recently offered me the opportunity to test drive her new line and here's what I found out.

A University of Virginia alumni, Dr. Jeanette Jacknin, founder and whiz behind the brand, is a trailblazer in holistic dermatology. In 2001, "Smart Medicine for your Skin", was published, a 400 page book which explains her skin care philosophy and offers detailed regimens for over 33 different skin conditions. The book provides a solid foundation on how a method of blended skin care (dermatology and holistic medicine) will help you achieve a clear, smooth and radiant complexion.

Following the success of Smart Medicine for your Skin, in January 2009, JJMD Skincare was launched.  A tightly edited line comprised of 9 core products, the collection targets fine lines, wrinkles, dehydration and age concerns.  Although small now, Dr. Jacknin anticipates expanding the line in the near future , and research and development of new products is on-going.  The potent anti-oxidant and anti-aging ingredients Dr. Jacknin utilizes include  a dizzying array of the best of the best : Matrixyl 3000, Halexim, DMAE, Alpha Lipoic Acid, copper peptides, hyaluronic acid, probiotics, acai and gogi berries, acerola, vitamins A, C, E, B1 and Niacin, as well as safflower seed oil, beeswax and aloe vera.

"I wanted to showcase the best of both worlds: dermatology and natural" observed Dr. Jacknin, "and created my line to offer people a high-quality, affordable and most importantly, effective skin care alternative."  Designed with the intention to be as effective as possible for as many different skin types as possible, all JJMD Skincare products either have a minimal scent (derived from ingredients, not added fragrance) or no scent at all, ultra-penetrating formulations to quickly deliver active ingredients to the skin, and are competitively priced.

Come Clean Revitalizing Mallow Cleanser: with hydrating and moisture-boosting herbs mallow and hypericum to combat dehydration while gently cleansing the skin. One of the products I tried, this gel had a velvety lather and rinsed away cleanly.  And, my skin wasn't overly tight or dry after cleansing, a problem I sometimes face and even though I'm oily - dislike immensely.

Apricot-Orange Energizing Exfoliator: Luscious orange and apricot-seed exfoliator enriched with coriander and clove oil to gently exfoliate dead, dry skin.

Antioxidant Aloe Deep Moisture: Aloe vera gel, allantoin, soluble collagen, rose, ginseng, fennel, chamomile and vitamins A, E, B1, C and Niacin create the perfect hydrator to lock-in moisture. Lovely cream-gel texture and a very light scent are added benes.

Saving Face SPF 30 Multivitamin Regenerative: This double-duty beauty unites anti-oxidant vitamins with the powerful sunscreens zinc oxide and ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate for broad-spectrum protection from sun damage and environmental aging. Also features vitamins A, C and E, cucumber extract, olive oil, tangerine, safflower seed oil and allantoin.

The Age Tackler Polypeptide Recovery Complex: Anti-aging powerhouse which targets fine lines, wrinkles, loss of elasticity and firmness with Matrixyl 3000, alpha lipoic acid, DMAE, copper and hyaluronic acid.  I loved the texture; not too thick and it absorbed quickly.

The Total Eye Rejuvenator: Helps reduce the appearance of dark circles, puffiness and fine lines with Halexim, sunflower seed oil, 4 different polypeptides and beeswax.

Pumice and Fruit Microdermabrasion Treatment: If you are a fan of microdermabrasion, you will l-o-v-e this product! Volcanic pumice combined with sugar cane, apple, citrus and green tea extracts are combined for powerful exfoliation, and they work. The unique texture, almost fluffy, and the fine grit of the volcanic pumice left my skin smooth and silky and the fruity smell was energizing. I'm going to be urging Dr. Jacknin to sell this stuff in industrial-sized tubs for use on the body! I loved it!

Healthy Vitamin C 20% Complex: Ultra-powerful 20% vitamin C serum loaded with additional anti-oxidants for targeted wrinkle reduction.  Helps stimulate skin cells, reduce the appearance of existing sun damage and brighten and tone the entire complexion.
