Continued from 1%ers, Women of the Word and 2 high school proms at the same hotel part 1

As the sun peeked over the horizon, not many were stirring but Prospects would be soon be bustling down the halls.  After the torrent of rains from the night before, there would be bikes for them to wipe dry after making sure coffee was fetched for their sponsors and officers.

Women of the Word were in their rooms making sure they were properly adorned in the new outfits purchased especially for the conference.  Only proper foo foo would do for these ladies.

The Hotel served a wonderful breakfast buffet that weekend and most of the Christian Motorcycle Ministries were up early to fellowship at breakfast.  After all, when you’ve given up worldly vices, food and fellowship becomes the next best thing.

The Women of the Word were arriving for breakfast about the same time and decided to merge in the breakfast line with the bikers since most of them dawned crosses, Bibles or the words Christian or Jesus on their black leather vests.

As I was retrieving a plate to acquire my breakfast, the foo foo woman in line next to me bravely but quietly said while averting her eyes, “Our first meeting starts at 8:30 and a second at 10:30.  You’re welcome to join us if you’d like.”

“Thanks.”  I said.  “I notice you’re in the meeting room right next to ours.”  I concluded as I had already been out on my morning fact finding excursion.

As the nice lady forced her ‘Godly smile’, I noticed her eyes widen when the notion hit her that they would be in an adjoining room with the bikers.  After living with bikers over 20 years, I was getting pretty good at reading paralanguage.  Here I stood, a card carrying Ordained minister, dressed in black leather with a silver cross embroidered on the back of my vest and this lady was mustering every bit of courage she could to wear her ‘happy face’, (bless her heart).

I decided to be fashionably late to the 10:30 meeting, arriving at 10:45.  That way, they would have time to be in full swing of Praise and Worship singing and I might be able to slip in quietly.  As I approached the meeting room, two security men moved in front of me with arms crossed over their puffed out chests, blocking the door.

“They invited me.”  I said, turning my back to them revealing the cross.

Stepping aside, they opened the door and granted me entrance.  My arrival plan had worked beautifully as the women were all standing, singing and clapping their hands in rhythm to the music.  Looking down each row for an empty chair, I walked down the side isle, finally coming to the front row.  There was one empty chair right at the end of the row where I stood so I quickly claim it.

After the music, the featured speaker was introduced and she stepped to her podium.  The first thing out of her mouth was to admonish her ladies saying “the group next door (she said waiving her hands toward the adjoining wall) couldn’t possibly know or understand the joy and peace flowing so freely in our room here today!”

Although I was sitting on the front row, I was on the end chair, all the way next to the opposite wall where she hadn’t seen me.

While she was continuing her welcoming words, someone down front was saying something to her; interrupting her.  Finally she said  “What?”  “There’s one here now?”  “In . . . here?”

I could see the tops of a few hands waiving in the air, pointing to my side of the room.

Glancing at me quickly, then straight back to her notes she decided not to acknowledge me or say anything further on the subject.  I’m sure she would have turned pale, had she not been a beautiful woman of color.

At the end of the meeting, I decided to make a quick exit, stopping to shake 2 or 3 hands.  It was a clean get-away as none pursued me.

During the remainder of the two conventions, I was able to minister to biker Old Ladies, praying with them introducing some to Jesus.

That evening, another Prom ensued but this time, parents and police arrived with them to escort them through the sea of bikers.

During the evening, I had occasion to use the ‘ladies room’ by the main lobby.  As I was coming out, a 1%er was passing by and eye contact was made so I chuckled and said to him “I wonder if anybody got in trouble booking these three events together?”

He responded back with a snigger “Yea, cops are escorting all the prom girls to the restroom.  I guess they’re afraid we’re gonna rape their little virgins.”  Then after a slight pause he finished his retort by saying “Ha!  Like any of ‘em are still virgins!” and continued walking toward the ‘men’s room’ then disappeared through the door.
