Jaguar and Buick tied for #1 in the J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS). In doing so they dethroned Lexus from their #1 spot that Lexus has held ever since they entered the survey. Lexus dropped to third so the real story is not that Lexus performed bad, but that Jaguar and Buick have improved so much.

The Luxury car customer is a very demanding one that doesn’t impress very easily. Buick has a lot of product infrastructure to borrow from its GM family. Because of this they have much more information and reliability data to go on prior to introducing a car to their lineup. Jaguar does not have this advantage; therefore their victory in this category is so significant to the brand.
Another accolade for Jaguar is that they won 2008 Sales Satisfaction Index. These two accomplishments together are very good reasons to put Jaguar on your shopping list. Not only will the dealership’s sales experience be #1, but the product itself is #1 in overall dependability.
Everyone knows that Jaguar has had a stigma for building unreliable cars, but it is clear that those days are over. With no slight to Buick and their victory here, Jaguar did it themselves. In a country where Hollywood star can rehab and Betty Ford their way back into the hearts of America, it warms my heart to see Jaguar do the same.
