FUN STUFF FRIDAYS- The King of Comedy, George Carlin, R.I.P.

June 27, 1:24 PM
by Leslie Cramer, Wine Examiner

The king of stand up
George Carlin, the king of social commentary, passed away this week at the age of seventy one.  The stand-up's use of  cutting- edge comedy transcended cultural barriers, giving him his own unique brand of societal interpretation.  Though the comedic icon was not the picture of health--he freely spoke of his drug and alcohol abuse and had had heart problems since the '70's--he was still taken from us too soon.

His own summation of his particular brand of humor:  "I think it is the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and to cross it deliberately."

Rest in peace, funny man.
