Ski towns up the ante in summer months with free festivals, concerts and sporting events. There is plenty to do in Colorado, and the following are just a few of the options. The featured categories will highlight summer concerts, music festivals, beer events and last but not least sporting events. Fun is a hop, skip and a jump away and summers always seem to fly by, hopefully this will help to be ahead of the curve.
Music Festivals
6/27 & 6/28 Blues from the Top Festival, Winter Park – Hideaway Park turns into a haven for blues music with over thirteen renowned artists performing Saturday and Sunday. Shows continue into the evening at Smokin’ Moe’s Ribhouse & Saloon because there is not much that goes better with the Blues than BBQ.
7/4 – 7/26 Crested Butte Music Festival, Crested Butte – One can find a musical variety for the sophisticated ear in Crested Butte. Opera, classical and jazz are a few of the genres offered at the month long event. The entire community gets involved with dance and opera performances from local youth and symphony performances complements of the Chamber of Commerce. With performances almost every day of the week convenience can factor into culture.
7/3-7/5 Three Ring Weekend, Copper – This event is geared towards families, offering activities especially for the little tykes. Copper has found a niche in hosting free concerts featuring big name musicians. The Three Ring Weekend is no exception, performances by Super Diamond, a Neil Diamond cover band and The National Reparatory Orchestra children’s symphony on Sunday will keep all ages occupied.
7/18 & 7/19 Mile High Music Festival, Denver – For most front rangers and mountain dwellers pointing out the Mile High Music Festival is stating the obvious, but for those of you who live under a rock this one is worth attending. The Dick’s Sporting Goods Stadium hosts a cornucopia of the world’s most talented musicians and a lineup that has the masses looking forward to this event. Headliners include but are not limited to; Ben Harper & Relentless 7, Tool and The Fray. The heat will be on, so if the music is not of interest, hordes of half naked people will be running around the place.
8/1 & 8/2 Bluegrass and Beer Festival, Keystone – Beer and bluegrass…has a nice ring to it doesn’t it? So do the stringed instruments of the festival. Beer vendors from all over Colorado show off their skills, and with the reputation Colorado has for microbrews, there is no room for slacking. These brew masters battle it out as acoustic geniuses play on the River Run stage amongst it all. Overalls are not mandatory, but this may be the one event where they are appreciated.
