Buccament Bay Beach Resort is scheduled to open July 1, 2010 on 98 acres along the southwest coast of the Caribbean island of St. Vincent.
The resort appears geared to more of a British Commonwealth crowd, rather than Americans, based on the resort’s plans for various sports academies. These will include a tennis academy headed by former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash (a native Australian), a cricket academy, and a soccer school associated with the Liverpool club of the English Premier League.
Even if you’re not a fan of such sports, though, the resort’s amenities should provide plenty of opportunities for vacation enjoyment. There will be no less than 12 restaurants on site, including a Trader Vic’s. The Island Sanctuary Spa will offer a variety of services, and there will be a diving and water sports center. The resort’s marina will have 24 berths for cruising yachts up to 250 feet in length.
Buccament Bay is the first of several five-star resorts being planned for Caribbean destinations by Harlequin Hotels & Resorts, founded by Dave Ames.
“Harlequin Hotels & Resorts has set out to define a new standard of luxury, notably in our first ventures in the Caribbean,” Ames says. “Our flagship Buccament Bay Beach Resort reflects Harlequin’s uncompromising commitment to quality, service, and the finest amenities that today’s discriminating vacationer should expect. This hotel will stand up against any other five-star hotel anywhere in the world.”
Other Harlequin resorts are being planned for Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, and St. Lucia. The St. Lucia resort will have a golf course designed by South African golfing legend Gary Player.
The firm also has plans for resorts in Brazil.
Buccament Bay anticipates having approximately 369 rooms available for occupancy when it opens. In addition, beachfront cabanas and plantation homes are being offered for sale on the site.
A new international airport on the island is scheduled for completion in 2012. In the meantime, most guests will arrive at the resort by flying first to St. Lucia and then taking a high-speed boat to St. Vincent.
