Brimfield Antiques Show price report - antique oak chests
Fell a mighty oak for a mighty purpose! When you look at some of the incredible Victorian oak chest of drawers that were made in the late 1800s, you may get a sense of how majestic was the oak tree from which it came.
Oak is one of the most common types of wood used for good quality antique furniture. It's strong, easy to work with and beautiful.
Upon my second trek to the Brimfield Antiques Show this week, I took many photos of furniture made from golden oak, tiger oak, (aka quarter-sawn), dark oak and oak veneer.
Below is a photo gallery of oak chests with the asking prices. By the way, Oak and Elm are almost identical in texture and tone, often fooling even the experts. Much of what is referred to as oak is actually elm, but for the most part there is no need to differentiate, one is as good as the other.
