If you take the auction out of an auction, it ain't an auction. That's always been my belief, and what I mean by that is, I don't generally like minimum bids, or reserves on auction lots.
With a lot as important as "gold coins of the world", you may expect such an auction to have reserves often and high ones at that.
But you'll find the confidence of a high quality auction that's well presented, means it is able to fly without a net for the most part, by way of many absolute auction lots. (Absolute, meaning no minimum starting bid or reserve)
The wildest any auction can get, for highs and lows, will be achieved when absolute bidding is prevelant throughout the lots. It will be interesting to see how the current gold market value affects the collector merit of these Ancient/World, gold coins.

Before you groan with disappointment over not being able to show up in person, let me tell you that pre-auction and live auction bidding are both available Online. All you need to do is register ahead of time as with any auction.

When large multi-session/ mega-lot auctions, have this many high end lots, with a low amount of reserves, it means these things in the auction world:
Activity will be hot for many lots due to auction fever.
Activity will be low for many lots due to auction expedience.
And, of course you have your lots which will ride right in the middle. Where you are on this end of the scale can depend on many things, among those being:
What's it worth? Do you know the estimated value of the coin below? It's lot description is as follows:
